D5 : Porto – Aïtone

Previous Day Next Day

This fifth day of our tour of Corsica in 15 days, originally dedicated to the visit by boath of the Scandola reserve, was delayed for a day due to strongs winds strong making it impossible to go on the sea. The change in this program takes us to the majestic forest of Aïtone, one of the finest and most typical of Corsica. Even the road from Porto to Evisa is the course of several photo stops as the mountain scenery is spectacular.

It is from this village, a paradise for hikers at 830 meters above sea level and situated on the edge of the forest Aïtone, that we leave the car to follow the path of Chestnut Grove. Throughout the trail, interpretive signs help us discover the important place that the chestnut was in the tradition of the mountain Corsica.

After a 1h15 walk and a hundred meters of vertical, we reach a road, then by taking the first road to the left we first met face to face with wild pigs, goats and cows that graze freely with their young. By a narrow and steep descent we access, among rocks and Corsican pine, a paradise of pools connected by waterfalls. Pure water and fresh river flows in and makes its passage between the boulders that serve as islands for hikers to rest. The place is magical by the color of sunlight pierced the trees reflected in water transparency. The poetry of the place invaded us during a break time with the sound of lapping water, and then we begin to return, downhill, that we’ll only take half an hour.
